Enterprise Security Configuration for Scale

Enterprise Security configuration at scale requires disciplined management of correlation searches, risk modifiers, and adaptive responses. The architect establishes a governance process: all new correlation searches must pass through a review gate (false positive testing, performance testing under load, documentation of expected behavior) before production deployment.

Correlation search performance is critical. A search that runs for 10 minutes every 5 minutes is always behind. The architect enforces SPL efficiency standards: use tstats over indexed data models, avoid leading wildcards, limit the lookback window to the minimum required, and use summary indexes for long-timeframe searches. These standards are codified in the detection engineering CI/CD pipeline.

A correlation search that takes longer to run than its frequency interval will permanently fall behind. Rule of thumb: correlation search runtime should be less than 50% of its frequency interval.

Question 1 of 1
A correlation search is scheduled to run every 5 minutes but takes 8 minutes to complete. What is the consequence?
ASplunk automatically speeds it up
BThe search permanently falls behind, creating detection gaps as each run starts before the previous one finishes
CSplunk cancels the search
DPerformance improves as Splunk learns the pattern
